Storage tent vs shipping containers

Containers are quick and secure for small volumes. As soon as you need forklift access to many pallets or long items, a clear-span storage tent is usually better value per m².
Comparison
| Storage tent | Shipping containers | |
|---|---|---|
| Space | Large clear span | About 14 m² (20 ft) or 28 m² (40 ft) each |
| Forklift access | Drive in anywhere | Only from the doors, one row deep |
| Security | Lockable doors | Very good |
| Long items | Easy | Limited by the container |
| Cost for large areas | Lower per m² | Grows linearly |
| Mobility | Demountable | Moved with a crane truck |
A useful combination
Two rows of containers with a membrane roof between them create a covered workspace with secure storage on both sides. Some tent manufacturers supply roofs designed for this.
Rule of thumb
Up to a few containers' worth of goods: containers. Larger volumes, pallets and forklift work: a warehouse tent.
