Buy or rent a tent hall?

By the tent3d editorial team · Updated 3 October 2026 · 1 min read

Renting suits short projects; buying usually pays off when the hall stays longer. The break-even point depends on the rent, the purchase price, installation costs and what the hall is worth when you no longer need it.

Renting

  • No large investment; costs spread over the rental period.
  • Installation, dismantling and often maintenance are included.
  • Good for events, short projects and uncertain needs.
  • Total cost grows every month.

Buying

  • Higher upfront cost, but no ongoing rent.
  • The hall can be moved, extended or sold on; a second-hand market exists.
  • You handle maintenance and insurance.

Finding the break-even point

  1. Get the purchase price (with transport and installation) from the cost calculator or an offer.
  2. Get rental offers for the same size and period.
  3. Estimate the resale value when you no longer need the hall.
  4. Break-even (months) ≈ (purchase price − resale value) ÷ monthly rent.

If you will need the space for longer than the break-even, buying is cheaper. Do not forget permits: they apply to rented and bought halls alike.
